Red Wolf 9ft Spinning Rod and Tempest 340 reel

The tastiest fish is the one you have caught yourself and we can vouch for that. Down here at River Cottage the team have mixed fishing abilities ranging from beginner to hardened all weather sea dog! Recently we have found the perfect rods so we thought we would make them available to you too. Both practical and easy to use, they are telescopic for easy storage and transport.

The Spinning Rod we use is a 9 foot telescopic Red Wolf with a casting weight of 30g and comes complete with a Tempest 340 fishing reel and includes fishing line

The reel has 3 ball bearings and has high speed retreive, a precision multi drag system, an oversized anti - twist line roller and comes with a spare graphite spool.

The rod comes with eye protector and whilst under 2ft collapsed

This item will only be shipped to mainland UK and the price includes the cost of post and packing.

Pinch Pot

These cute salt pinch pots are the creation of our friend Nick Hillyard. Nick has been a potter for 25 years, along with teaching pottery in local colleges. He is the maker of our much loved River Cottage mugs.

His designs are beautiful and highly intricate, influenced by Oriental and European folk pottery. The decoration is hand carved Sgraffito slipware, achieved without stencils or patterns. Nick is a very popular local potter whose work is exhibited in various West Country galleries as well as at Liberty's in London.

The design incorporates the River Cottage Logo, in blue, and they are approximately 750mm diameter and 450mm deep.

We are also offering the pinch pot with a 225 gram of Cornish Sea Salt and save £1.00 of the RRP

Cornish Sea salt crystals of great purity that melt in the mouth and add real flavour intensity to the things you love to eat. Cornish Sea salt offers more taste for less salt, making it a healthier alternative to traditional table salt.

The salt is harvested from the clear sea water off the coast of Cornwall - from the Atlantic ocean. Nature’s ultimate renewable resource. The sea water is extracted at 3.5% saturation, we take only 0.5%, and return sea water from where it came, at a saturation of 3.0%. This simple hand-harvest process, working with nature, results in brilliant white flakey sea salt crystals with more than sixty naturally occurring trace elements essential for well-being. The crystals crumble easily between the fingers, and they taste great too!

Cornish Sea Salt is the preferred salt of the River Cottage chefs.

These bottles are the same style bottles that we used in the TV series River Cottage Spring to bottle our Elderflower champagne.

The bottles are 500ml and have a classic swing stop lid and come in multiples of six.

These bottles are available in either clear or frosted.

Stocks are fairly limited as following the show the popularity has rocketed.

Cheese Club

The River Cottage Cheese Club

Our Local Produce Store and Canteen in Axminster has a range of cheeses that keeps the locals coming back! Approximately 75 different cheeses, mostly from the West Country. We are now offering a taste of these cheeses to you.

How it Works

We are lucky enough to have several cheese experts here at River Cottage, amongst them Carol, who takes good care of the deli counter at the store, and Cat, who comes from a well known cheese making family. These experts will select four different cheeses every month and we will try and cover a range of milk types and styles of cheese to ensure that you receive a varied cheeseboard every month. We will deliver the selection of four cheeses, selected by our experts, to you on the first Thursday of every month. The cheeses will come with tasting notes and a short explanation. We will also include a packet of crackers from the Fine Cheese Company.

Also to get you started your first order will come with a local hardwood cheese cutting board.

Deliveries

Deliveries will be made on the first Thursday of every month and will be delivered by courier and will therefore require a signature. If you are taking a holiday or want to skip a month all we need is two weeks notice to suspend your order.

Unfortunately we can only offer the cheese club to mainland UK residents and the price includes delivery!

The next delivery date will be be Thursday 7th August. Order need to be placed by July 31st.

The contents of the August Cheese Club will be :-

Harbourne Blue - a delectable goats cheese made along the lines of Roquefort. Many herbaceous flavours melt into the mouth in a succession of succulent waves. Made by Robin Congdon at Ticklemore. Approx 200g

Sharpham – A brie style soft cheese with an unrivalled creamy buttery texture and scrumptious taste. Made near Totnes. Approx 270g

Milstone – A hard, crumbly cheese from the brothers at Wootton organics. These boys can’t seem to put a foot wrong. Exceptional. Approx 270g

Denhay Mature Cheddar - Denhay Cheddar is carefully matured and monitored until it is 11 months old when it is sold as premium West Country Farmhouse Cheddar. Approx 400g

Fine Cheese Company Crackers.

River Cottage Bunting

The River Cottage Fishing Bag

We've said it many times before, just about all of us at River Cottage love fish and fishing and there's nothing quite like catching it yourself and then taking it home and cooking it. Perhaps the only thing that can beat that is cooking your catch in a special way right then and there!

		Well we've discovered the perfect way of doing that. A fishing bag full of loads of fishing goodies including a telescopic rod, a crayfish net and a portable fish smoker!
The fishing bag or satchel has been locally handmade by our friend Rosie and has a wide shoulder strap, making it easy to carry that heavy load of fish. It has a fold over flap that secures with two metallic poppers and a handstiched picture of a mackerel on the flap.
	The crayfish net is cleverly designed with a zip pocket to put bait in, a zip to stow the securing line and clips to hold it flat for ease of storage in the bag. When in use the net measures about 500mm long and has apartures measuring 80mm diameter at each end to let the crayfish in. You need a licence to set a crayfish trap, for more information click here.

Last but not least the fascinating fish smoker. This folds in to a manageable tin which is also part of the smoker itself. It comes complete with a pot to hold your combustable material, a griddle tray and handle. We've even thrown in a 1kg bag of oak sawdust!

The smoker of course comes complete with instructions and we'll include a River Cottage recipe for smoked mackerel.

The internal dimensions of the smoker are 30cm long x 18.5cm wide x 6cm deep

This year's TV programme, “River Cottage Spring” has a big drive to encourage everyone to eat well at home by getting back in to the kitchen and do some traditional home cooking and to grow and harvest produce from the garden, and we think we've come up with a really nice way to get you started.
