Board our dedicated River Cottage charter boats, and we'll head off to see what we can catch!

 

Our morning will be spent out fishing on the boats: we'll focus on rod-and-line fishing, but the day might also include some crab-potting. Our endeavours will be fuelled by a delicious on-board brunch, prepared in the River Cottage kitchen.

 

The morning fishing lasts until about 12.30pm, after which it time to return to River Cottage HQ. We begin the afternoon demonstrating fish-preparation techniques and our own repertoire of recipes, before we all sit down to a slap-up fish feast.

 

Catch and Cook update: If the course is cancelled due to weather, we will run our Introduction to Fish Skills and Cookery course as an alternative option. Please see our cancellation policy at the bottom of this page for full details.

Novice anglers are very welcome - in fact, we find they often catch the most fish! We will provide all of the fishing equipment necessary for the day.

Additional Information

Our boats are fully-equipped with WC facilities.

The cookery at HQ is demonstration based. Practical participation is not required, although volunteers are encouraged to take part in the demonstrations.

Location: This course starts in Lyme Regis and ends at River Cottage HQ on the Dorset / Devon borders. Full address details of H.Q. will be provided once you have booked.

Wine/drinks: We are a licensed venue, and can provide a wide selection of organic wines starting at £10 per bottle, or champagne for special occasions. We also run a Bring Your Own policy, with no corkage charge. In addition, we serve complimentary, locally-made cordial and iced spring water from our own artesean well.

We don?t have camping facilities ourselves, but for information on local campsites and self-catering accommodation, you can call the Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre on 01297 442 138, Axminster Tourist Information Centre on 01297 34386, or Seaton Tourist Information Centre on 01297 21660, any of whom will be happy to help.

Course duration: 8.30am - 6.00pm

Age: The minimum age on this event is 12yrs of age. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. We put these guidelines for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests.

Although we provide all of the fishing equipment you will need, please check the details you are sent at time of booking for details of the personal equipment you will need to bring with you (such as suntan cream, waterproofs and so on).

Tickets: We operate an E-ticket system so you will be sent an email confirmation of tickets purchased but no tickets in the post. You will also receive 2 emails - on with all the details you will need for the event, and another separate email confirming your payment.

Catch and Cook weather policy:

If your chosen date is cancelled due to weather, we will be running an Introduction to Fish Skills & Cookery course as the alternative, called our Option B. If Option B goes ahead, you will be automatically offered a £50 voucher (difference in course prices) and a signed copy of Hugh's FISH book or a £50 refund. Booking this course has an automatic inclusion of Option B. We hope that you will appreciate our reasons for the inclusion of Option B, to avoid the disappoinment and loss of travel and accommodation costs in visiting us, as we appreciate alot of you travel a long way to visit us. Option B has enabled us to release further dates this year, enabling more of our customers to enjoy a day out fishing with us.
