Come and join
John Wright
, our River Cottage foraging expert, for an edible adventure along the beautiful coastline of West Dorset.
The coastline of the British Isles is not only a national treasure, but a source of free foods. We might find clams and mussels and the odd spider crab, as well as winkles and limpets, and a variety of edible seaweeds and sea vegetation such as sea beet and marsh samphire.
The day will start with coffee at River Cottage HQ before heading off to the coast (transport provided) to look for our edible coastline goodies. Depending on which beaches John selects for our forage, there might be a coach journey involved. A packed lunch is provided.
After the forage we will return to HQ where John and our River Cottage cooks will demonstrate recipes based on the typical find of a seashore forage, which will hopefully include what we have found that morning. These dishes will then be served up for your (latish) lunch.
John will then give an identification talk and answer any further questions you may have.
All guests will be given a signed copy of A Cook on the Wildside book on the day.
The Autumn version of this event, with a forage for mushrooms, is Walk on the Wildside: Mushroom Foraging. Or why not join John for a Wild Food Feast evening?
The afternoon of this event is demonstration based. Practical participation is not required, although volunteers are encouraged to take part in the demonstrations, at some point during the day.
