River Cottage v Gardeners' World

The birds are chirping, the strawberries are ripening, the sweet peas are flowering . . . it must be high summer! This is an exclusive opportunity to join us for an afternoon of sporting history . . .

To celebrate the season, River Cottage has challenged Gardeners’ World to a game of cricket. The smack of leather on willow, the gleam of sunlight of whites, the joyful cry of ‘Howzat’ – English summer at its best . . . although we can’t guarantee the gleaming whites!

Hugh and the River Cottage crew will be taking on Joe Swift, Toby Buckland & the Gardeners’ World team on Saturday 17 July, taking place in the East Devon area (directions will be given upon booking).

 All profits from this game will be going to Thrive – a charity dedicated to promoting and encouraging the benefits of growing and gardening for people with disabilities. Having seen first-hand how important growing and gardening can be in enabling people to transform their lives, we hope you’ll come and support such a fine cause as well as see some cricket of indeterminate quality.

A traditional Devon high tea, with cakes, scones and sandwiches will be available to buy from 3pm.

We will also be running a fully licensed bar selling River Cottage Stinger Beer, River Cottage Elderflower Sparkling Wine, local ciders and wines, as well as non-alcoholic drinks, such as apple juice and cordial. Tea and coffee will be complementary.

Again, all proceeds will go towards Thrive.

 Time:  The match starts at 2pm. We ask that you don’t arrive before 1pm as we will not be able to accommodate you. We anticipate that the event will run until 7pm. ??

Tickets:  Admittance to this event is by pre-booked carload/bicycle only. Tickets will not be available to buy on the gate. To get your ticket please email Alex at events@rivercottage.net or ring 01297 630302. £20 will give one car with up to five occupants entry for the afternoon. Tickets for bicyclists are £4.

Each guest will be given a welcome glass of River Cottage Elderflower Sparkling Wine. Name, payment and car registration details will be taken upon booking to ensure your saved space.
