Statement: press inaccuracies (February 9)

We want to say a massive thank you for all the messages of support, offers of help and amazing care River Cottage has been shown over the last 24 hours.

From the fantastic firemen - who worked through one of the coldest nights of the year - to local businesses who have pledged their time and space through to individuals who have offered to help and clean up.

And beyond, too many to list now.

We have been inundated and overwhelmed, and it has been brilliant.

The press coverage has also been very helpful in getting the immediate news out.

However we do need to point out that River Cottage HQ is not Hugh's home.

And contrary to one newspaper report, the cause of the fire was not the smoker or the wood-fired oven.

We are still waiting for the results of the investigation, but we do know that neither of those pieces of equipment were involved in, or affected by the fire.

As was made clear to the newspaper, the smoker had not been used as part of the day's course. Both remain untouched.

The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service have confirmed this on their website.

We are hoping for a further update from the River Cottage events team later in the day but in the meantime, from everyone here, thank you.
