The new River Cottage Canteen in Bristol will open its doors to the public for breakfast on Monday 4 March.
Our latest restaurant is set in a stunningly-converted Grade II-listed 19th Century hall on Whiteladies Road, near Blackboys Hill.
It will offer a combination of freshly prepared seasonal, local, organic and wild food, on a daily changing menu in a relaxed ambience.
Earlier this week River Cottage was recognised for its commitment to high quality ingredients from local suppliers and welfare standards at the Sustainable Restaurant Association Awards in London, and it will be no different in Bristol.
Up to 90% of the produce will be coming from within 50-mile radius of the Whiteladies Road, and suppliers include the Community Farm in Chew Magna who will supply vegetables and Sunseed Organics based behind Temple Meads in the city.
The Canteen's organic cattle and poultry will come from a variety of sources. Story Farm in Compton Martin, Chew Valley, Stream Farm in Bridgewater, which has a co-operative of farmers working the land as well as Sheepdrove, who have their shop just over the road from Bristol Canteen.
"As the Canteen opens, more and more small growers, breeders and producers will be discovered. Hidden gems in amongst the wealth of Bristol countryside," said River Cottage Development Chef, Andrew Green.
"We never rest on our laurels and our door is always open to new suppliers that meet our ethos," he added.
Diners will be able to enjoy the new wood-fired oven and a view of this fantastic timber framed ceiling and the wonderful 15ft high leaded windows, which had been languishing for more than 20 years behind a huge slab of concrete inside the former Building Society.
Hugh commented: "The best seasonal local produce is always at the heart of the River Cottage approach to cooking, and we are very much looking forward to celebrating and contributing to the vibrancy of the local food community in Bristol."
"We have a great opportunity to source the best ingredients and create some fantastic food in a unique location," he added.
"Bristol is an exciting place to be part of and a great opportunity for everyone at River Cottage.”
