Welcome to Axminster
The River Cottage Canteen and Deli in Axminster's Trinity Square showcases the very best the South West has to offer.
A two-minute diversion off the A35 between Dorchester and Exeter, our award-winning restaurant and deli celebrates our famous ethos about fine seasonal, locally-produced produce.
It's just a stone's throw from the Jurassic Coastline between Seaton to nearby Lyme Regis and onto the fossil beach of Charmouth in neighbouring Dorset.
The weekly market, still held in Trinity Square each Thursday on our doorstep, boasts a wide range of amazing producing from the Axe Valley and beyond.
Hugh originally re-purposed the disused town centre pub back in 2008, transforming the building into his campaign base during his Chicken Out! TV campaign against the intensive farming of chickens.
The Canteen has come a long way since then, becoming an award-winning restaurant, deli and host to local suppliers and producers demonstrations.
Head chef Sam Rom and his kitchen team have since been recognised for their commitment to responsible sourcing by the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).
He sticks closely to River Cottage's famous ethos of creating amazing food using only the finest seasonal produce from local suppliers.
I'll always have a soft spot for Axminster. Our open kitchen adds a bit of theatre to the dining experience, and what we do here ties in with what we do at River Cottage HQ, JUST THREE MILES UP THE ROAD FROM HERE.
