River Cottage has been recognised for its commitment to responsible sourcing at the inaugural Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) Awards in London.
Our Canteens in Axminster and Plymouth, plus event centre at River Cottage HQ have received the SRA's 'Award for Sourcing' at a ceremony in the capital.
The SRA is a national not-for-profit membership association, providing restaurants with advice and support to help them navigate the whole spectrum of sustainability issues.
It rates restaurants on their food sourcing, environmental credentials and societal responsibilities.
"Sourcing the very best, local, seasonal, high welfare food for River Cottage restaurants is our top priority – and of course one of the great pleasures of our business," said Hugh.
"To be recognised as the best at this in the UK is a great honour, a tremendous endorsement of all we're striving to do and a fantastic boost to the whole River Cottage Team," he added.
"We certainly won’t be resting on our laurels though, rather we’ll be working hard throughout 2012 to see if we can improve our all round sustainability."
River Cottage was last year named most sustainable place to eat in the UK by the SRA.
Both River Cottage HQ, run by head chef Gill Meller, and Tim Maddam's Axminster Canteen team achieved Three Star Sustainability Champion status.
The two sites demonstrated especially good credentials in local and seasonal produce, healthy eating, waste management and responsible marketing.
“River Cottage doesn’t just talk about sustainability, it practices it too and its very high score reflects this," said George Clark, account manager at the SRA.
