"Money is the root of all evil", so they say and I kinda agree. Our vicious capitalist society centres around (& even rewards) greed, selfishness and ego.
A loving religion done right offers so much good, but sadly much evil has been done in the 'name' of religion, so I can understand your choice.
Not all religions are the root of evil; no war has ever been fought in the name of Buddha.
Sadly not true; there has been military action in the name of Buddhism. Buddhist scholars would tend to suggest there is no justification for war in buddhist teaching, but that doesn't mean buddhist teachings haven't been used for that reason before.
Jealousyis the root of all evil to me, which covers money, materialism and most everything . I can look at something and think 'lucky thing' and say I am so jealous but to actually be jealous is not a nice thing and can lead to all sorts of problems. ( I f you get what I mean)
The root of all evil?
So in your opinion, what is it?
Greed and religion would be my choices.
religion for sure, and greed/money certainly...and gravy

Envy, and fear. Both of them lead to behaviour beyond the pale.
How are we defining "evil"? That which is 'evil' in one group - is perfectly acceptable behaviour in another.
If I had to have a stab - I'd say "the lack of empathy" ! - But some would say we we can be Too empathic. as well !
Here's an example - Who is the 'evil ' one in here ?
