Proves they have been shriven doesn't it? The tradition at my junior school, which was C of E was to wear a bit of ash twig in your shoes. They were mainly lace ups in those days so no problem.
We didn't do anything at Ash Wednesday We did get little crosses made from palm leaves for Palm Sunday though ... It is not a custom I am at all familiar with I have to say.
Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
OH came home with a couple of bags of toms he got cheap, so some are drying in the drier, and will go into a jar with olive oil, some are being stewed down to bottle and some are going into a roast tomato and basil soup for today. Left over crumble that we were gonna have yesterday had it not been pancake day, will be eaten tonight with ice-cream.
Make yourself at home!!! Clean my kitchen.
A balanced diet is a piece of cake! In each hand.
As far as I am aware the ash cross on the forehead is a Catholic tradition, where people go to confession and are shriven (forgiven) their sins, hence Shrove Tuesday, before Lent. That's all I know, being a Protestant.
Sounds as if you are going to have a good tomatoey time Potty.
Soup again for us today. I did a tomato and basil base, for the soup with lots of veggies in it, and it was lush. And very comforting as it had been lashing it down all day. Surprise surprise it's raining again today,

going to have a look through my new Greek cook book for the weekend, lots of lovely things to choose from, wish it had more pictures as I'm not that familiar and will no doubt be wondering of it looks right.
