Italian 'goat' sheep

asked by user-464851 on

On holiday in Northern Italy we saw what I thought were goats but the locals told us were sheep - They milk them and make cheese with the milk. Does anyone know what breed they are and if you can buy them in this country? I've spent hours on the internet but failed to find them!!! Are they exclusive to Italy? I now have 3 Balwen sheep - not for milk I hasten to add - but what characters they are!!

Danger when weaning lambs!!

asked by Kirst on

A friend who also has a couple of orphaned lambs for the first time this year was told by a farmer friend that now her lambs are 6 weeks old she must stop feeding them milk immediately. Something to do with the milk going into the wrong stomach and they can just die suddenly! I am a little alarmed as my lambs are a similar age, but they seem to be weaning themselves quite nicely. They are down to three bottles a day, one of them sometimes only has two. They will turn down their last feed and even on occassions their morning feed first thing. I assumed I could just carry on in this way until they are off the bottle completely in the next couple of weeks. HELP! I'm worried sick now and would appreciate some input :-)
