Hi, I have a micro pig who is almost 12 months old. I need to either get him tattooed or get ear tags for when I move him off my land but am unsure where to get these or which is best. Can any one offer any advice please?

The tags just stay in all the time. If it's just so that you can take him for walks I'd go for the plastic ones that just look a little like a stud earing. They don't tend to catch on things like the metal ones do. Are you aware that to walk a pig you need to have the route you are going to take approved by DEFRA? And I think you also need a liscence (but could be wrong about that). If I tried to walk one of mine I wouldn't see them for dust!!!!!! (or mud!)
Thanks, he's only around the size of a scottie dog, I don't intend on using him for meat but need him to have a permanent mark to take him for walks. I'm a bit worried that an ear tag might be too big & also, could I used the same hole each time I put the tag in or does it stay in all the time?
Metal tags are necessary for most abattoirs, so if you do not want to tag him twice, I would go for metal. The plastic ones do seem to stay in better, but can be very difficult to "lock" down, and are unreadable after the dip tank. You can buy small numbers of tags on some smallholder sites. What size is he now?
