Hearty bread, effortlessly

Prep time
  • 10 minutes
Cook Time
  • 60 minutes
  • Makes 2 loaves
  • 500grms Plain flour
  • 400grms Wholemeal Flour (course)
  • 50grms Wheat germ
  • 50grms Wheat bran
  • 5rms salt
  • 25grms brown sugar
  • ½ tblsp Bread soda
  • ¼ tblsp baking powder
  • 1ltr of Buttermilk



  1. Preheat oven to 160°c
  2. Sieve Plain flour and salt into a large mixing bowl
  3. Add the rest of the dry ingredients and mix well
  4. Make a well in the mix and add the milk gradually, mixing from the centre out
  5. Grease two 12inch loaf tins
  6. Divid mixture into loaf tins
  7. Bake n ove for 1 hour
  8. When ready remove from tins and wrap in a tea towel and place on a cooling rack


For an even healthier option, add 50grms of mixed seeds (pumkin, etc)
