Putting food on the table for the family quickly and economically doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality.

This book shows how Hugh’s approach to food can be adapted to suit any growing, working family, or busy young singles and couples for that matter.

Breakfast, baking, lunchboxes, quick suppers, healthy snacks, eating on the move and weekend cooking for the week ahead – all these, and more, will be covered in River Cottage Every Day.

“I make no prior assumptions about where you shop, what you may or may not know about growing vegetables or keeping livestock, whether you can tell the difference between a swede and turnip, or know what to do with a belly of pork and a breast of lamb," says Hugh.

"Instead, I’ll show you easy and confidence-inspiring ways with cuts of meat, types of fish and other ingredients you may not have tried before. And I’ll offer you new approaches that I hope will breathe new life to familiar staples, like rice, spuds, beans, and your daily bread," he adds.

"Above all, I intend to tempt you irresistibly towards a better life with food, with a whole raft of recipes that I think you will love.

"I hope some of them will become your absolute favourites, and the favourites of your dear friends and beloved family.

"I hope that the dishes you like best will infiltrate and influence your cooking, giving you increased confidence and fresh ideas. In short, I hope that before long, cooking simple and delicious food from the best seasonal ingredients becomes second nature and first priority for you, not just once in a while, but every day.”

" 'We all know that food can sometimes be wonderful. I think it should be wonderful every day'. And this book more than lives up to Hugh's quote. My new favourite cookbook for the autumn term, it is overflowing with a wonderful collection of delicious and accessible recipes. Clear instructions, beautiful pics and useful Hugh intros with the added joy of quirky, witty illustrations. I went straight to the 'treats' (being a girl) and made the lemon trickle cake. Incredibly easy to follow, cooked like a dream, very happy kids! So much so that my son has requested that I make it as his birthday cake. Next on the list the sausage and root veg stew, parsnip and thyme bread and apple and walnut crumble. You can see I am in an autumn state of mind... " - Lula

"A great cook book for every day use - hence the name I guess. So far have very successfully cooked the Baked Chicken Curry and have had requests for the Chorizo Carbonara and Roast lamb with lemon and apricots. Nice pictures and easy to follow recipes." - Sarahl1

A river Cottage Masterpiece

I have a pretty comprehensive collection of recipe books which provide me with inspiration and enjoyment throughout the year, however things moved to another level last Christmas when my wife put River Cottage Everyday in my christmas stocking. I love the whole River Cottage philosiphy of seasonal nose to tail eating which makes stars of the even the most seemingly humble ingredients, and this book captures it beutifully. I have have used my copy of River Cottage every day week in week out for the last year, and as a source inspiration and ideas it is second to none. I have so many "favourites" from this book that they are too numerous to mention here, suffice to say that the ritual of saturday morning drop scones if missed results in very grumpy children. We have always cooked alot of game (it is abundant supply in rural south Worcestershire) but the pot roast Pheasant with Chorizo and butter beans was an absolut revelation. For a nice easy Pudding or teatime treat, I would suggest trying the Apple Pudding cake, it is a hit every time I make it, (also gorgeous with pears) and I have been known to cook it to order, mine is always heavy on the cinnamon but its equally delicious without. If you buy this book and dont find at leat half a dozen recipes that you absolutely fall in love with the only conclusion I could reach is that you cant read. Well done Hugh, you and your team have produced another winner!

I have loved watching the current series on TV and got my sister to buy me the book for my Birthday. Never have I been compelled to cook so much, from one book, and so quickly - I could not wait to use it. I have just had a friend join me from the smoke for a walking and girlie weekend. I decided to go 'Hugh' for the whole weekend. It was foodie heaven! We started on Thursday eve with the 'Baked Butternut Squash' cooked with bacon and gruyer. Friday eve was the 'Pheasant, Chorizo & Butterbean casserole'. We baked the 'Fruit Cake' on Sat am (with spelt flour) and had 'Sausage and Root Vegetable casserole on sat eve. (used fennel based on what available in the supermarket) I cannot falt any of the receipies. The flavours were incredible! All so simple to put together and the fruit cake is like Christmas Pudding in a cake. The forward in the book is really informative and sets the scene for the receipe's to come. This is a fab present for any of your friends who like Real, Flavoursome food. Off to look at my book now for this weekend. Enjoy!

Thank you Hugh and team, someone has finally produced an everyday which can genuinely be used everyday. At last genuinely quick cooking or dishes which can be thrown together and chucked into the oven, interesting veg recipies instead of steamed (again!). I have given up turning down the pages of the recipes which look good as i was turning down every page. Now i dont have to surf the internet when i run out of ideas and you have saved my family from yet more pasta bake. Thank you.

I loved the series on tv and added this book to my cache of favourite cookery books. I can only say that Hugh's recipes represent a wonderful lifestyle that we can all aspire to. As as result in the small 'place' where we live in Brixham in Devon we operate like a proper community sharing produce and seasonal gluts with love and equanimity. My friends have just arrived in Lincolnshire sustained by Hugh's breakfast bars, and I am eating their pear preserve with my lunch; and come Christmas we will all be sharing chocolate brownies, chocolate cake and fruit cake. Thanks to this fabulous book; I don't know how I cooked without it. We are thinking of starting a British Thanksgiving, [like the Americans have], in our neighbourhood simply to keep our spirits up and to give thanks for our friends and for where we live. BUY THE BOOK - DON'T HESITATE it will change your life!
