If you are looking for new and exciting ways to turn your vegetables into delicious meals or want to know how to get the best out of your veg box, this one day cookery school will provide you with the know-how. After the course you will take home the knowledge and enthusiasm to create delicious vegetable-based feasts to feed your family and impress your friends.

Your day at River Cottage

Arrive: Tractor ride down to the farm

Welcome: Meet your host and tutor for the day. Enjoy a morning tea or coffee and tasty River Cottage treats. See for yourself the famous River Cottage farmhouse and kitchen garden and some of the seasonal vegetables that you will cook with during the day.

Practical Session One: Veg stock - key to the success of veggie soups, stews, risottos, gratins and curries, a good veg stock will take your dishes to another level.  Recipes may include: Chestnut & Sage or Cucumber & Lettuce Vichyssoise.

Practical Session Two: Mezze dishes - learn how to whip up Cannellini Bean or Walnut & Beetroot Hummus and make delicious garlicky flatbreads to enjoy them with.

Practical Session Three: Centre Stage - Vegetable dishes can be the star of the show. Recipes may include: New Potato Gnocchi or Celery Gratin

Lunch: At River Cottage food is very much the focus and your two sumptuous two course lunch of local seasonal fare prepared by the River Cottage team will not disappoint.

Practical Session Four: Hearty salads - “a well-tuned mixture of the raw and the cooked, the chunky and the leafy, perhaps the nutty and the cheesy, creates an enticing, self-contained plateful”. Think Panzanella in the summer or squash, spelt & fennel in the winter.

Practical Session Five: Pudding - turn those tasty veg into delicious desserts. Recipes may include: carrot, courgette or parsnip cake, beetroot brownies and pumpkin pie. 

Close: Enjoy a slice of vegetable cake, have a chat with fellow course attendees and members of the River Cottage team, before jumping on the tractor to take you back up the hill.

This is a guide to the activities that will make up your course at River Cottage. This is by no means set in stone and will depend on the season as well as the group's interest.

Location: This course is run from River Cottage HQ on the Dorset/Devon borders. Full address details of HQ will be provided once you have booked.

Wine/drink: We are a licensed venue. We have a wide selection of the finest organic wines.

Age: We would advise that this course is only really suitable for 12yrs of age and upwards. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. We put these guidelines in place for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests.

Time: 9.30am - 5.00pm

I love my veggies and this Cookery School was perfect. I learned far more than I expected and I am looking forward to pulling those veggies out of the allotment and creating some new dishes.
