In Australia I use a bird called the Hy-Line Brown chicken. It is a very good layer averaging an egg a day all year round. I am told that the hen lays best in its first 2 years of life. My question to Hugh, or anyone else that knows, is at 2 years old is the hen too old to be killed and eaten? If this way was alright, then I could use the hen for laying eggs for the first 2 years, then for food after that. Thanks!!!!!!
