Real Bread and more

Here we go! A bit late but better late than never. In an effort to share my enthusiasm for sustainability and self-sufficiency with the pupils from my school we have decided this year to 'Bake our lawn' which is an activity I found on the Real Bread Campaign site. Tomorrow we will be digging the plot ready for sowing wheat as soon as the ground thaws. We aim to grow, mill and bake our own bread and pizza bases - pupils in the junior school will be growing ingredients for the pizza toppings. I'll probably plant a back up plot at home as well as just in case!

Have spent this afternoon trialling cookie recipes so that the girls can make and sell heart shaped cookies in school next week. We are trying to raise money to buy nest boxes to put up during National Nest Box Week. If we are lucky we might even raise enough for a nest box camera so that the pupils can watch video footage of nesting behaviour on the school intranet.

Other projects we are undertaking include clothes swap weeks and textile recycling followed by a recycled fashion show ,tree planting and plastic paper and can recycling.

Well better go and find my spare spades and lets hope for another dry, chilly day tomorrow!
