Update on Lambs

by Luth published on
, ,

Well its two months on, and I can't belive how big the lambs have grown already.   They are getting quite big, are so quick compared to there parents.  We have one late ewe that should hopefully be having her lamb(s) within the next day or so.  A little late although we think maybe she may have been late herself last year.

We love them, they are very friendly if you have a bucket in your hand.

Regarding how easily, we wouldn't have asked for anything better. The only major thing we've done is trimmed there hooves, which was a bit of an exercise for newbies like us.

There birthing was a real success, we lot 2 boys only because they were the big first twin out of two sets of lambs. The ewes were all madians and we've been told it will be easier next year. Including the two that we lots we actually had 5 sets of twins, which is not bad considering we only have 7 ewes.

If you get a bit of dust then expect them to be a bit sniffy, and snotty, don't worry its the dust and not a cold or anything. I only mention because we got a bit worried about it last year.

Anyways, when you get them, let me know how you go, as I'm keen to find out what others think and there experiences etc.

Peter, don't worry its a continually for us reading the River cottage website, I totally know what you mean.

I know we are on an oblate spheroid with our axis tilted with respect to our orbit but it still seems odd to see spring lambs at this time of year :-D

Hi Luth, I'm in Australia as well. We are waiting for our Wiltshire horn sheep. A gentleman up the road sells them. How have you found them to look after. Anne-Marie
