Hello everybody - ANTS - I'm in the process of creating a new potager, I hopeing this will work. The ground is horseworn and really hard to dig, so I have created a raised bed system with pallets, which I have laying around from ongoing building works. I have turned them upside down and removed the slats from underneath and refixed them at the two ends to create an open box. I have filled them with earth from a bank which I made two years prevoiusly with excess muddy top soil and then covered to stop weeds. However, in two or three of the boxes I appear to have ants. I think they have come from the bank. I've turned the soil in the boxes and not come across a nest. How do I get rid of them without leaving poison in the soil, will they set up a new nest or do I just hope they go away. Many thanks in advance for your kind help.
Jam - I wish to make a sugarless jam and sweeten with a small amount of Stevia Rebaudiana (the sugar herb). We have planted, cherry, blackberry (we also have lots of wild blackberry), framboise, myrtle, and I think blueberry and we have a pear tree. Is there a combination of the above which would provide enough pectin to thicken the jelly/jam sufficiently or will I need to add another fruit. I really want to try and make this with just fruit and no sugar/additives. Hope its possibly, many thanks in advance for your kind help. Titeuf
