Hi, I` bought six hens recently from a battery...

Hi, I` bought six hens recently from a battery farmer for a pound each and now they`re very happy running around my large property. We then decided to buy a cockerel a Maran by the name of "Big Dave" Well big dave has been doin` the dance and doin the business all summer but the hens dont seem to be getting broody. I was wondering if the hens because of their past history of battery life maybe they wont!!!. Any ideas.....
