a few weeks ago i watched the salad lunch bowl 1, there was pasta and other things to add to it.....1 of these things was a kinda wheat look a like, cooked more or less the same way as pasta, i used to eat it as a child but cant for the life of me remember the name or where to get it so if you have any idea what i am talkin about a responce would be extreamly helpfull!!!

Sourdough issues

I have tried numerous times to make sourdough and end up with a rather sad looking excuse for a loaf that is very heavy and dense. When cut the crumb looks almost wet and doughy. Anyone have any suggestions. As a base recipie I use the river cottage bread book.

We love what you guys have done and are doing!
We would like to start growing our own Veg etc but live in the tropics so unsure on what and how to start?
Can anyone help?
We have a lot of fruit trees so thats a good start.

as one who does not approve of labels, i do not consider myself bi-polar, but i most definitely do have a tendency to get over-involved in things that get my attention. in that respect i was wondering if i could request that any comments i might make will always be held for moderation? just wondering, and certainly not if it's going to be a great bother to anyone - simply because i have every respect for the work river cottage is doing, and i would like to be able to add to that, not detract from it.

Duck/chicken

I had a slightly unfortunate accident last year in that one of my chickens went off into the undergrowth to sit on eggs but one of my ducks must have laid an egg in her pile whilst she was off the nest and just the right time as one of the hatchlings was a duck. The chicken seemed to be fine with this and raised her with the chicks. Tweeter now has a very happy life hanging out with his chicken friends, he even manages to get up and balance on their perch in the mornings when I come down to their shed. Now dthat breeding season is upon us it has become very clear that he thinks he is a chicken as he is now trying to mount the chickens and chasing the cockerels off! Do you think the frustration of never being able to mate will be too much for him? He has never been in the water and does seem on all other respects very happy to be a chuck!

I have never kept goats before and as our two lambs are about to go to the freezer I thought a couple of more permanent residents might be nice in the form of goats. having mentioned this on Facebook I have been Inundated with horror stories, especially about Pygmy goats, which is what I was tending towards. Can anyone give me some sensible advice on this subject as to the pros and cons of little goats against big goats!! many thanks for your thoughts.

Hi i have had my hens for around a year now, yesterday my light sussex Lily laid 7 eggs, i thought that perhaps she was getting ready to sit and hatch some babies, but i found her dead this morning, does anyone have any ideas as to what has caused this?
