More in-depth than our One Day Cookery Course, Two Days at River Cottage is a fun and thorough introduction to the culinary world. You will be looked after every step of the way by our brilliant River Cottage tutors and chefs, and leave armed with the skill, confidence and inspiration to cook delicious food at home.
From baking your own bread and pizza to learning the principles of slow-cooked meat, butchery and offal, your two days will cover a wide range of useful kitchen skills – and you’ll get to taste all the results along the way, of course! Learn how to fillet fish, knock up some fantastic vegetarian recipes and indulge your sweet tooth with cake, pastry and desserts, all set against the breathtaking rural backdrop of River Cottage HQ.

Arrive at River Cottage
You’ll be at met the top of the hill at 9.30 each day and transported to River Cottage HQ by tractor and trailer.
You’ll meet your hosts and start each day with tea or coffee and treats fresh from the kitchen.
To kick things off you’ll discuss the principles of good bread, with the chance to knead, shape and bake your own farmhouse loaf, as well as mastering focaccia and pizza.
You will be introduced to the River Cottage nose-to-tail philosophy, and learn to prepare meaty main courses, offal, slow-cooked cuts and the perfect stock. We’ll also cover some basic butchery skills with a chef-led demonstration.
We’ll teach you to make vegetarian snacks, such as roast carrot hummus with homemade flatbread, and a variety of sauces and other veggie dishes.
You’ll pick up the skills needed for filleting fish as your chef demonstrates some quick and easy fish and seafood dishes.
Baking and puddings
To round off your meals, you will find out the secret to great desserts, learn how to make pastry and bake some gorgeous cakes.
After all your hard work, you’ll finish each day by tucking into your meal of local, seasonal fare.

On occasion cookery schools will use equipment that includes induction hobs. It is recommended that people with pace makers should not work on these units. If you are concerned or would like to check whether or not induction hobs will be used on the course you are interested in, please call us on 01297 630302.
This course is run from River Cottage HQ on the Dorset/Devon borders. Full address details of HQ will be provided once you have booked.

We would advise that this course is only really suitable for 12 years of age and upwards. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. We put these guidelines in place for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests.
