Chef's Demo and Dine

Join us for a chef's masterclass followed by a five course lunch of the finest seasonal fare with paired drinks.

We are delighted to announce this new series of events, in which you will enjoy a 2 hour masterclass from one of River Cottage’s expert tutors, followed by a fantastic 5-course feast.

The River Cottage commitment to sustainability and our SLOW - Seasonal, Local, Organic and Wild - ethos is at the core of what we do. Our Artisan Demo and Dine experience is a chance to find out why we are utterly dedicated to this ethos. Your masterclass and menu will feature some of the best ingredients the season has to offer, many of which will have been foraged, grown, raised or caught either right here on the farm, or by nearby farmers, growers and artisans who share our passion for the finest provenance.

Before your feast begins, our Chef Tutor will demonstrate some of the key principles of the River Cottage way of cooking, as they show you how to create innovative dishes which will be later be served as canapés or incorporated into your lunch. This is not a hand-on course, but a great opportunity to watch and learn about some of our core River Cottage subjects – and indeed work up an appetite for a feast that exemplifies the skills in question.

As the masterclass comes to an end, your feast begins with canapés and a glass of our River Cottage Organic Sparkling Wine. You will have a chance to chat with your tutor and ask questions before you take a seat for your sensational 5-course lunch, with paired drinks.

Your day

11.00 - 15.30

  • Arrive at River Cottage

You’ll be met at the top of the hill and begin your River Cottage experience with a 10-15 minute walk through the wonderful pathways down to the farm, enabling you to really soak up the views of the valley.

  • Masterclass

Settle into the 18th Century Threshing barn with a cup of tea or coffee as your masterclass begins. Your tutor will demonstrate the key principles of the specialist subject and create dishes for you to try during your visit.

  • Tasters

Once your masterclass has finished, you'll enjoy the canape tasters with a glass of fizz and have an opportunity to ask any burning questions.

  • Feast

You'll take a seat at the table and your chef will talk you through the menu and share more about our philosophy as well as the provenance and preparation of our seasonal dishes.

It's finally time to tuck into the five course menu of fantastic local and seasonal produce.

  • Drinks

Your menu will be accompanied by a drinks pairing chosen to complement each dish. Our drinks choices are as considered as our menus. You will be served a selection of alcoholic and soft beverages to suit the menu on the day, which may include organic and biodynamic wine, our own River Cottage beers, ciders and kombuchas.

  • Departure

There'll be time for a coffee or tea before you head up the hill to the car park.

Please note: This is a guide to the activities that will make up your course at River Cottage. This is by no means set in stone and will depend on seasonal availability.

On occasion cookery schools will use equipment that includes induction hobs. It is recommended that people with pace makers should not work on these units. If you are concerned or would like to check whether or not induction hobs will be used on the course you are interested in, please call us on 01297 630302.
