Embrace the Christmas spirit on this exciting new course and spend a day learning to make a selection of River Cottage festive favourite recipes.
On this special festive cookery course you will learn to make a collection of recipes, both sweet and savoury, curated by our chefs to ensure your culinary creations will delight and impress friends and family this Christmas. After a day of expert guidance from our chefs, you'll leave River Cottage brimming with confidence to create these dishes at home and looking forward to a Christmas filled with mouthwateringly good food without any stress.
The course will encompass all the key elements of festive feasting - including sweet treats and biscuits, a show-stopping main and more-ish sides. And, as with all courses at River Cottage, our chefs will touch on the joys of seasonal eating and the importance of ingredient provenance.
In addition to a productive day cooking, it will also feature a delicious lunch, which will be a combination of your own handiwork and a few extra flourishes prepared by our chefs in the kitchen.
Over the course of the day you will master gingerbread Christmas tree biscuits, lamb Wellington with your own rough puff pastry, tasty veggie sides, and a selection of sweet morsels. There will be plenty of time to be spoilt too as our chefs will ensure you have plenty of seasonal snacks and a tipple or two.

Arrive at River Cottage
You’ll begin your River Cottage experience with a 10-15 minute walk through the wonderful pathways down to the farm, enabling you to really soak up the views of the valley.
Make yourself at home
You will meet your host, and start the day with tea, coffee and treats fresh from the kitchen
At 10am you'll begin the day by creating a flaky rough puff pastry which you’ll return to later to create your lunch.
Gingerbread is a must have in December for us. Next you'll create some gingerbread Christmas trees with the perfect spicing.
Next up is a root veg masterclass. Your River Cottage chef will demonstrate how to get the best out of these festive favourites.
Utilise your rough puff pastry to create sumptuous slow roast lamb wellington, a showstopping centerpiece for any festive meal.
Time to take a well-earned rest. Have a seat and tuck in to the Wellington with the root veg masterclass sides - plus extras from the kitchen!
After lunch it is time to master the sprout! Your chef tutor will guide you to rustle up three great recipes to make the most of this much-maligned vegetable.
To finish the day, get stuck into creating a selection of festive petite fours. Have a bite (or two) and toast the season with a nip of cider brandy.
There will be time to chat to your fellow scholars and the River Cottage team, before heading back up the hill for 5pm with some of your creations in hand.

On occasion cookery schools will use equipment that includes induction hobs. It is recommended that people with pace makers should not work on these units. We would advise that this course is only really suitable for 12 years of age and upwards. Under 16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. We put these guidelines in place for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests.

With many of our courses there are often treats and leftovers to take away with you. In our quest to be more sustainable we are encouraging guests to bring their own containers and bags to transport their produce home. Details of what is required for each course will be included in booking emails.
