Christmas food doesn't have to be all about turkey - let's celebrate the fruit and vegetables!
Christmas at River Cottage is a magical time and the climax of a year of growing, cooking and feasting. On this hands-on cookery course, the River Cottage chefs will teach you a range of skills and techniques to fully embrace fruit and vegetables in your festive cooking.
Learn how to get the best out of your veg, discover new ways to turn vegetables into delicious canapes and stunning celebratory showstoppers. Upgrade your mincepies with a fruity frangipane tart. And it wouldn't be Christmas without a few indulgent sweet treats!
Take home a glut of knowledge to feed your family and impress your friends at Christmas time.

Arrive at River Cottage
You’ll begin your River Cottage experience with a 10-15 minute walk through the wonderful pathways down to the farm, enabling you to really soak up the views of the valley.
Make yourself at home
You will meet your host, and start the day with tea, coffee and treats fresh from the kitchen.
At 10am we will begin the day by creating a selection of festive canapes perfect for pre-dinner celebrations.
You’ll learn how to make the perfect sweet pastry, great for all sorts of desserts and turn this into a mincemeat frangipane
Next, you’ll create a series of stunning veggie side dishes, all perfect as part of a festive feast.
Your chef will demonstrate two show-stopping veggie centrepieces as inspiration for your Christmas dinner.
You'll enjoy the show-stopping creation that your chef demonstrated in the previous session, served along with your own sides that you made earlier.
Next up learn how to incorporate veg into cakes and puddings and have a go at making a spiced beetroot and chestnut brownie.
To finish the day, you'll get stuck into creating a selection of festive petits fours and enjoy a festive tipple.
There will be time to chat to your fellow scholars and the River Cottage team, before heading back up the hill for 5pm, mincemeat frangipane, canapes, beetroot brownie & petit fours in hand

On occasion cookery schools will use equipment that includes induction hobs. It is recommended that people with pace makers should not work on these units. If you are concerned or would like to check whether or not induction hobs will be used on the course you are interested in, please call us on 01297 630302.
This course is run from River Cottage HQ on the Dorset/Devon borders. Full address details of HQ will be provided once you have booked.

We would advise that this course is only really suitable for 12 years of age and upwards. Under 16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. We put these guidelines in place for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests.
Sorry, we’re afraid this course is not suitable for those with coeliac disease or wheat intolerances. However we do run Gluten Free Cookery courses.
With many of our courses there are often treats and leftovers to take away with you. In our quest to be more sustainable we are encouraging guests to bring their own containers and bags to transport their produce home. Details of what is required for each course will be included in booking emails.
