20 Years, 20 Dishes - with Hugh and the River Cottage Team
A rare opportunity to join Hugh and his team for a 20-course tasting menu, spread across an amazing afternoon and evening of activities and celebration.
It has been 20 incredible years since Hugh introduced us to his fantastic food philosophy in the Channel 4 series ‘Escape to River Cottage’. As a campaigner, food writer and broadcaster, Hugh continues to blaze an ethical trail, challenging us to think about the provenance of our ingredients and encouraging us all to grow and cook as much as possible.
Following the incredible response to our birthday event, Hugh and the brilliant RC team have decided to host a second event, again for just 48 people, capturing and sharing the principles and passions of River Cottage. The day will be held at our beautiful HQ, nestled in the stunning Axe Valley on the Dorset/Devon border
Hugh and the team have planned an exciting, jam packed schedule, which will include: joining Gill Meller in our new outdoor cookery area to learn more about cooking over a wood fire; assisting Steven Lamb as he demonstrates salami making in our purpose built cookery school; some time with the garden team, taking a “pick and nibble” tour of the farm, and planting up seed trays to get your own veg beds started for the growing season ahead. Hugh will be at the heart of the day, based in our iconic 17th century farmhouse, ready to meet all our guests, chat, sign your books, and tell tales from the past 20 years.
Your 20-dish experience will begin from the moment you arrive at HQ, with a welcome lunch in our 18th century threshing barn. The feast will continue throughout the day as you sample dishes in the cookery school, by the fire and in the garden. Hugh will introduce the finale of the celebration, a spectacular 10-course sit down dinner, before leaving you in the capable hands of Head Chefs Gelf Alderson and Andy Tyrrell and their talented kitchen team.
The day includes all food and activities, as well as matched drinks, including beers, ciders and wines, kombuchas and tisanes. You will leave with a copy of our River Cottage A-Z Cookbook, signed personally by Hugh, as well as some of the kitchen and garden treats that you have helped prepare throughout the day.
Hugh has been closely involved in planning this amazing day and says: “We have never done anything quite like this before, and I have to say, I am hugely excited. This is the ultimate “taste of River Cottage” - it’s about what we do, what we stand for, the finest food we can make and of course 20 years of sharing the very best of River Cottage with you. I can’t wait!”
We ask guests to arrive for Midday where they will be met in the car park and transported down to the farm by tractor and trailer. The day will then draw to close at around 10.30pm.
