We have the absolute pleasure of welcoming Melissa Hemsley to River Cottage HQ to celebrate the launch of her new cookbook ‘Eat Green with Melissa Hemsley’ on Friday 13th March.
Self-taught chef and renowned food writer, Melissa is a real food activist and sustainability champion who is passionate about spreading the power of feel-good food. ‘Feel-good food for me,” Melissa says, ”is food that not only tastes delicious, it’s food that nourishes our bodies, food that’s grown with the seasons and with respect for the people who grow it. It’s food to be enjoyed and shared, and it’s food that is used to its full wholesome, nourishing potential with nothing wasted.” A view we wholeheartedly share here at River Cottage HQ.
Join Melissa and the River Cottage team for a feast that combines our passion for ingredient provenance with the diverse global influences of Melissa’s cooking, inspired by her love of India, Sri-Lanka, the Philippines and Thailand as well as countries closer to home. With just 64 tickets available, this promises to be an intimate and special evening. Melissa will open the event with a seasonal cocktail and canapes in our cosy wood fired yurt.
Dinner will be served in our stunning 18th century threshing barn where Melissa will share news of her latest projects, revealing more about the journey behind her new book and discussing the philosophy that runs throughout her work. She will be joined by our Executive Head Chef Gelf Alderson and our Head Chef Dom Moldenhauer who have collaborated with Melissa and who will introduce the menu. You will enjoy a feast of multiple courses based on recipes from Melissa’s new book which focuses on delicious veg as well as meat, fish and dairy.
Coffee and petits fours will be served before the evening draws to a close and the tractor and trailer will whisk you back up the farm track.
Melissa writes a fortnightly sustainability column in Vogue, a monthly recipe column in The Telegraph and has a café in Selfridges (Hemsley & Hemsley), Eat Green is her third book. Melissa is an ambassador for FairTrade UK and this year she launched a highly successful first series of community events around people and planet called ‘The Sustainability Sessions’, featuring a brilliant selection of industry experts including Fearne Cotton, Grace Dent, Skye Gyngell and Anita Rani.

After dinner you’ll unwind with coffee and petits fours (if you still have room), before being driven back up the hill by our tractor and trailer.

We are a licensed venue. We have a wide selection of the finest organic wines available to purchase.
