River Cottage Festive Feast (dinner)

A special addition to our Christmas calendar, come and join us for an event full of the spirit of the season.

Christmas at River Cottage HQ is the celebratory finale of a bountiful year of growing, harvesting, cooking and eating. We love welcoming guests down to our farm to share the festivities with family and friends and feast on the spoils of the season.

Our iconic 17th century farmhouse and beautiful threshing barn are decked with foraged evergreen boughs, twinkling fairy lights and candles. There is a hint of woodsmoke in the air from the crackling open fire in the yurt, mingling with the heady citrus, spice and baking scents wafting out of a kitchen in full festive swing. It’s the perfect backdrop for an evening of long table feasting and festive cheer.

Dinner is four mouth-watering seasonal courses of our own and locally sourced, organically grown and reared produce. We know the provenance of everything we cook with and our chefs share some of these stories once you are seated in the barn. The menu always includes new recipes as well as the occasional old favourite and is excitingly dependent on what ingredients are available.

  • Arrive at River Cottage

    We may be one of the only venues in the country to transport you to dinner by tractor and trailer! Catch a ride down to River Cottage HQ from the car park at the top of the hill.

  • Welcome

    Head to the yurt to meet one of our team and enjoy a fireside welcome drink and delicious canapes.

  • Chef’s introduction

    Once seated in the barn, your chef will talk you through the menu and share more about our philosophy as well as the provenance and preparation of our festive dishes.

  • The main event

    You will be treated to a festive four course menu of fantastic local and seasonal produce. We regularly and happily cater for any dietary requirements so please let us know at your time of booking.

  • Petits fours and coffee

    Just time for coffee and petits fours (if you still have room), before being whisked back up the hill by our tractor and trailer.

Leek and cider rarebit on sourdough

Mushroom, port and thyme pate on rye cracker with pickled red onion

Sourdough with fresh butter, pickles and our own salami

Beetroot and apple soup, horseradish cream

First Starter

Cured pollock, orange, peppery leaves, labneh and tamari pumpkin seeds


Grilled celeriac, orange, peppery leaves, labneh and tamari pumpkin seeds

Second Starter

Squash gnocchi, brown butter and sage, parsley pesto and ricotta

Main Course

River Cottage Devon Red beef cooked over coals, beef fat carrots, caramelised onion puree, broccoli with anchovy dressing


Young leeks and cauliflower cooked over coals, coriander dressing, warm spiced split pea puree and crispy leaves


Chocolate torte, ginger biscuit, praline caramelised pear

This dining event is run from River Cottage HQ on the Dorset/Devon borders. Full address details of HQ will be provided once you have booked.

We are a licensed venue. We have a wide selection of the finest organic wines available to purchase.
