Taste East Devon - Feast
A six course feast as part of the Taste East Devon Food Festival 11 - 19 Sept. 21
Join us at River Cottage HQ for a six course feast celebrating the fantastic produce and ingredients that East Devon has to offer, cooked by our chefs Gelf Alderson and Gill Meller, who between them have run the River Cottage kitchen and collaborated on our menus for almost 20 years. Their inspirational cooking reflects the passion, knowledge and commitment to provenance that fires up the whole River Cottage team and makes us so excited to work with the wonderful farmers and producers that surround us.
During the evening, Gill and Gelf will explain our SLOW ethos of ingredients that are Seasonal, Local, Organic and Wild: plants, meat and fish that have been foraged, grown, raised and caught either right here on the farm, or by nearby farmers, growers and artisans who share our passion for the finest provenance.
Two of these organic growers, Trill Farm and Haye Farm, are our neighbours and will be in the room on the evening to talk with Gill and Gelf about growing vegetables and raising the very best organic meat. Our fish supplier, Lyme Bay Fish Shack owners Nigel and Corrine, will be on hand to discuss sustainable fishing and our charcuterie supplier and course tutor Steve from Good Game in Topsham will be sharing his inspirational knowledge.
We source our drinks as carefully as our food, with our own River Cottage range of organic ciders, beers and kombuchas, and a carefully curated wine list of organic and biodynamic wines. If you would like us to pair your drinks for each of the courses let us know on the night and you will be served a different drink for every course, each chosen to perfectly compliment the dishes.
We are confident you will leave full of delicious food, happy memories and, we hope, some garden and kitchen inspiration too!

Arrive at River Cottage
You will be met at the top of the hill from where you will stroll down the scenic track to the heart of the farm - with its 17th-century farmhouse, livestock and extensive kitchen gardens.
Before dinner, enjoy a local tipple or seasonal cocktail and explore our abundant kitchen garden where much of your feast will have originated. The first course, comprising our own River Cottage charcuterie with home-made seasonal pickles, ferments and our own sourdough bread, will be served in the garden with your aperitif if the weather allows.
Once you are settled in our beautiful threshing barn, Gill and Gelf will introduce the menu and share the story of their own River Cottage adventures, and twenty years between them of working alongside Hugh on his journey from the original TV series Escape to River Cottage to the internationally renowned cookery school and events venue that is River Cottage HQ.
The main event
You’ll be treated to a menu of fantastic local and seasonal produce, planned on the day to showcase the freshest and the best from our farm and fantastic local suppliers.
After your final course of home-made petit fours with a coffee or a herbal infusion, it’s time to head back up the hill. If the walk up does not seem quite as appealing as the walk down was a few hours before, we will be happy to give you a lift in one of our trusty Land Rovers.

We are a licensed venue. We have a wide selection of the finest organic wines available to purchase.
Under 16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. We put these guidelines in place for the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests.
We happily cater for allergies and intolerances so do let us know of any restrictions at the time of booking. We kindly request you do not specify dislikes or preferences as we would love you to try the dishes our chefs have specifically created for the event so you can experience the menu as it was intended.
