Last month our Head Chef Gelf Alderson headed to Paris to cook a special dinner at the British Embassy

River Cottage was invited to take part in a special dinner Diner Bio at the British Embassy in Paris. Gelf cooked an elaborate meal for a group of representatives from the organic sector, including top chefs and food writers, at an exclusive showcase dinner at the UK Embassy in Paris this week.

Diner Bio, was hosted by British Ambassador to France Lord Llewellyn as the finale of the Goutez Great Britain event celebrating UK organic and ‘free from’ food. A host of British organic companies attended the event to share the best in organic produce to French companies.

Lord Llewllyn said: “Organic food is a major part of contemporary British cuisine, combining the best British ingredients and creativity alongside tradition. The fantastic taste draws on our history and diversity and our cosmopolitan communities to which we can add superb value and top quality. At this event, that welcomed so many excellent UK organic products, we truly saw the best of British food visit the heart of France. River Cottage have long championed seasonal, sustainable and environmentally-responsible food, and their Diner Bio menu was a celebration of traditional autumn flavours prepared in modern British dining style."

Gelf says about the event: “Organic produce and food integrity underpins everything we do at River Cottage. As a chef, I’m passionate about the importance of organic: not only does it taste so much better, but it’s sustainable and supports responsible farming methods. It was an honor to bring a taste of the River Cottage ethos and flavour to France as part of the Diner Bio event.”

The menu:

Charcuterie Gravlax cured in beetroot with horseradish cream

Trio of lamb (saddle, leg, faggot)

Spiced roast squash, cauliflower puree and cavolo nero

Cheeses and crackers

Poached pears with salted caramel ice cream

Chocolate tart
