River Cottage Veg Cookery course receives Vegetarian Society Approved trademark

The Veg Cookery course at the River Cottage Cookery School has just been awarded the official Vegetarian Society Approved trademark, the symbol of reassurance and trust which marks products that are suitable vegetarians.

Inspired by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s TV series and accompanying book, River Cottage Veg Every Day, the Veg Cookery course teaches a range of skills and techniques to turn vegetables into delicious and satisfying meals.

Gill Meller, Group head chef at River Cottage, said: “We felt it was important to get this official status so vegetarians can be 100% sure that we comply with the strict criteria set out by the Vegetarian Society.

“River Cottage and Hugh are obviously well known for their use of organic, locally-reared meat and the nose-to-tail approach. However, we also love home-grown vegetables, fruits and salads and we believe that we should all eat less meat. This course is a celebration of vegetarian food.”

Lynne Elliot, Chief Executive of the Vegetarian Society, said: “We are delighted to be able to accredit this course to carry our trademark symbol. It’s great that a high profile business such as River Cottage is taking its vegetarian customers seriously. Anyone who has enjoyed River Cottage’s inspiring vegetable cookery can now be reassured that the content of this course is completely suitable for people interested in or following a vegetarian lifestyle.”

Based outside Axminster in beautiful Devon countryside, the next Veg Cookery courses will run in July 2015 through to September.
