Rusty the Whale unveiled at River Cottage Canteen Plymouth

River Cottage Canteen Plymouth has joined forces with charity Surfers Against Sewage in order to raise awareness of marine waste and to launch their fantastic new kid’s menu which doubles up as a marine waste themed educational activity sheet and a pirates hat!

A huge whale made by Plymouth Graduate artist Paul Wright out of recycled plastic bottles has been suspended in the Deli and children from St George’s Primary School came along to see the whale, try the new kids menu and learn more about the charity Surfers Against Sewage and marine waste.

Hugh said: "Our new kids menu has just been launched to support Surfers against Sewage. It's specially printed on a sheet that has loads of pics of amazing sea life and info about how we can help protect it from pollution and rubbish. They can colour it in and take it away - and even fold along some lines to make it into a pirate hat.

"As you can see, the menu itself is not "baby food", but carefully thought out variations of our main menu. There's simple fish and meat and plenty of veg and tempting original puddings.

"And for those kids who are just a little harder to please we're always happy to have their parents pick and mix across the menu finding things that they know their kids will eat!"

Hugo Tagholm, SAS Chief Executive said; “We’re delighted that River Cottage will be hosting Rusty the whale and using him to help educate kids in Plymouth about the work of Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and the problems facing our Oceans. We’d also like to thank River Cottage for kindly donating money to SAS from the sale of kids meals, the money will go towards our work protecting the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for everyone.”

The new kids menu is available in all four River Cottage Canteens and has been designed to give kids a variety of great tasting dishes and encourage them to try something different such as Crisp cauliflower with beetroot yoghurt or root vegetable and lentil stew with thyme dumplings.

River Cottage has pledged to donate 50p from every kids meal sold in all of their four Canteens to Surfers Against Sewage.
