Come and join John Wright, our River Cottage foraging expert and author of the 5th River Cottage Handbook, Edible Seashore, for an edible adventure along the beautiful Jurassic coastline of the South West
The seashore can be a wonderful source of free food if you know what you're looking for - which is where John comes in. John is not only an expert mycologist but a keen seashore forager.
We will meet at River Cottage HQ, from where we will set out on our expedition (transport and a pack lunch will be provided).
Depending on whether you join us in Autumn or Spring, we might expect to find shellfish including the odd velvet swimming crab and a variety of edible seaweeds and sea vegetation such a sea beet and sea radish. John is also keen on laying pots, so if we have time and the weather is right, he will show us how this is done.
After the forage we will return to HQ, where John and our River Cottage cooks, will demonstrate recipes based on a typical seashore find, which will hopefully include some of what we have found that morning. John will then an identification talk and answer any further questions you may have. These dishes will be served up for your (latish) lunch.
All guests will be given a copy of John's Edible Seashore
book on the day.
John also teaches Walk on the Wildside: Mushroom Foraging during the Autumn.
The afternoon of this event is demonstration based. Practical participation is not required, although volunteers are encouraged to take part in the demonstrations, at some point during the day.
