The best seasonal fruit loaf - very popular in NZ. I make this with spelt

- Loads
- 1 cup peeled & sliced feijoas
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour (or spelt flour)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 50 g butter
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
Preheat oven to 180 C.
Place feijoas, sugar, butter and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil, cook gently for 5 minutes and then remove from heat and allow to cool.
Carefully stir in the dry ingredients and egg.
Mix until dry ingredents are just moistened.

Hello from the other side of the world!
I'm a Brit, living in France, and like the look of your recipe as I've got a lot of spelt flour looking for a purpose in life! But what should I use in place of feijoas. I can't say that I've ever seen them in the UK or France, unless they're known by another name.
