Seasonal Garden & Grounds Team Member

We’re looking for a passionate grower to join our team, alongside our Head Gardener, Farmer and garden volunteers, to help care for the land and produce delicious organic veg to be served to the guests on our 100-acre organic farm situated in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Job Title: Seasonal Garden and Grounds Team Member

Reporting to: Head Gardener

Location: River Cottage HQ

Job Type: Seasonal, temporary, fulltime

Salary: Up to £24,000 per annum (pro rata)

About you:

• You’re an experienced gardener and grower of food

• You’re ideally familiar with organic growing and/or farming practices

• You take pride in the land looking beautiful whilst still being natural and wildlife friendly

• You’re happy to speak with guests and advise on questions they may have

• You’re eager to get involved with all sorts of tasks in a multi-faceted business

• You’re happy to work as a team and eager to share your own ideas

• You ideally have a valid driving licence

Purpose of Job:

Work under direction of the Head Gardener to maintain and develop the productive gardens and wider grounds of River Cottage HQ through the main growing season on an initial 6-month contract.

Key responsibilities:

• Plant, maintain and harvest the productive areas of the River Cottage site under direction of the Head Gardener.

• Provide assistance with propagation and plant raising.

• Contribute to the development of the productive and ornamental areas of the grounds.

• Assist in maintaining the wider grounds including the safe use of non-powered and powered handheld equipment.

• Record work carried out and communicate effectively with other members of staff.

• Help direct volunteers and apprentices in the absence of the Head Gardener.

The above list is provided to give you an idea of the types of tasks you will be asked to complete as part of your role. The list is not exhaustive and will change and be updated as required.

General:

• On occasion you may be asked to work early/late or at the weekend

• To maintain the highest standards of Hygiene and Health & Safety in accordance with all statutory, legal and company requirements.

• To undertake any such other duties as may reasonably be required by the company.
