Christmas Wreath Making

Adorn your home and get into the festive spirit, with Christmas wreath making at River Cottage.

Join us for a day of all things Christmassy at River Cottage, with our Christmas Wreath Making course hosted by local flower grower and florist Emma Dixon of Meadowsweet Flowers and Floristry.

Emma will teach you how to make two fabulous Christmas wreaths, with plenty of other tips to give your home a little festive cheer. We’ll provide all the materials – holly, berries, ivy, seed heads, feathers and ribbon – and reward you with a hearty lunch, hot toddies and the chance to explore River Cottage HQ in the beautiful midwinter.

  • Make yourself at home

You will meet your host and start the day with tea, coffee and treats fresh from the kitchen.

  • Demo session

Emma will take you through her top tips for Christmas decorations, with crafty ideas to deck your halls in style.

  • Practical session

Next, time to make your Christmas wreaths! Emma will guide you through the traditional techniques using holly, berries, ivy, seed heads, ribbon and added sparkle. While you work we’ll serve a mulled cider to warm your cockles.

  • Lunch

Food is always the focus at River Cottage, and next you’ll tuck into a two-course lunch of local, seasonal fare prepared by the River Cottage chefs.

  • Practical session

After lunch you'll get underway with your hazel wreath, a less traditional style of wreath, but equally as elegant. This lighter style of wreath is ideal for hanging indoors or out, adding beauty and festive cheer to your home.

  • Departure

You’ll marvel at your beautiful handiwork, before wandering back up the hill (at 3.30pm), ready to make your way home to hang your wreaths.

Please note: This is a guide to the activities that will make up your course at River Cottage. This is by no means set in stone and will depend on seasonal availability.

On occasion cookery schools will use equipment that includes induction hobs. It is recommended that people with pace makers should not work on these units. If you are concerned or would like to check whether or not induction hobs will be used on the course you are interested in, please call us on 01297 630302.
