Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. If you have a question that you can't find the answer to below please feel free to get in touch!
What time can I arrive?
Check in is between 3pm–6pm. If checking in past 6pm there may not be a team member available to meet you, however we will send you all the information you need.
Parking is in the main car park at the top of the hill along the hedgerow, the front of house team can be called on your arrival to collect your luggage. If you have a 4x4 you are more than welcome to drive down the track to the tractor turning circle. It is an uneven, single track so please be mindful of other vehicles coming up.
Late arrivals
If you require a later arrival please contact us in advance of your booking, with as much notice as possible. We will try to arrange for a team member to meet you, but if checking in past 6pm this may not be available. We will however send you all the information you need.
What time is check out?
Check out is by 10am.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, as the farmhouse is a listed building with a steep wooden staircase to the bedrooms, it is not accessible for wheelchair users. This applies to both The Farmhouse and Gardener's Cottage. There is also a steep, uneven track that leads down to the main farm, from our car park. If you have any accessibility requirements, please contact our team to discuss.
Are children welcome?
You and your children are welcome to stay in our Gardener's Cottage or, in our Farmhouse if all rooms are booked by your group. For the comfort of the other guests staying in the Farmhouse, we cannot accept children in the Farmhouse if you are booking only 1 or 2 rooms.
Can I bring my dog?
No, dogs are strictly not permitted on site.
Are drinks provided?
A selection of teas and coffee will be available for you to help yourselves to. We also have an extensive drinks menu.
What can I expect for breakfast when staying at River Cottage?

Towels, Linen and Toiletries
We supply guests with towels, bathrobes and bed linen. Bathrooms are stocked with Bramley toiletries.
Cleaning and services
If you require your room turning around for stays longer than 1 night please let us know at check in.
Room facilities
We want our guests to enjoy the peace and quiet of the farm and consider the farmhouse a sanctuary from the outside world, therefore we do not have televisions in the bedrooms. We offer free WIFI although please be aware, due to our location, the signal can be weak and not suitable for streaming video.
Can we explore the farm and gardens?
Yes, you are very welcome to explore the farm but please note we are a working farm with livestock so close all gates behind you. Please don't pick food from the gardens without one of our gardeners present.
Will a team member be at the farm overnight?
A team member will be there when you are due to check in and check out. Most days there is someone on site between 9am-7pm. When there is not a team member at the farm, there is a contact number for emergencies.
When can I book?
Due to the planning of our events we are typically only able to accept bookings for dates within the next 3-6 months. If the date you are looking for is out of this time period and stating unavailable do check back for further updates. We are unable to accept bookings with less than 48 hours notice.
What are the options for dinner?
Depending on the date that you visit, you may be able to join one of our ticketed dining events
For whole farmhouse bookings and celebrations, you might like to consider our private dining option.
You are also welcome to use the kitchen facilities within the accommodation to rustle up your own evening meal. There is a farm shop a few miles away and a supermarket and independent shops in the neighbouring towns.
If these options aren't suitable for you there are many other eateries in the neighbouring towns - from fish and chips, to fine dining and everything in between!

You can find a list of local taxi companies HERE. We recommend booking taxis in advance as they can get booked up quite quickly.
What is your cancellation policy?

With more than 28 days notice prior to your stay - we are able to complete a transfer of the booking to a new date or voucher without a fee.
With between 7-28 days notice - there will be a £25.00 admin fee in order to complete the transfer to a new date or voucher.
With less than 7days notice - we are only able to complete a name change on the booking.
We strongly advise that upon booking, all guests take out the appropriate insurance to cover themselves for the cost of the booking should they not be able to attend for any last minute reasons.
