The main dwelling of the iconic River Cottage farmhouse was restored in 2019 and the adjoining Gardener’s Cottage saw renovations take place in early 2021. Both have been sympathetically designed to reflect our sustainable ethos yet offering stylish and comfortable accommodation for our guests.

The Farmhouse

Original features have been retained and restored, breathing new life into one of the most beloved spaces at River Cottage. The sitting room has double aspect views across the courtyard to one side and the mature walled kitchen garden to the other. The inglenook fireplace and bread oven in the kitchen, focus of many of Hugh’s onscreen cookery demonstrations, have been lovingly restored and complemented with a fully equipped modern kitchen featuring a large range cooker. The house has three spacious, interior designed bedrooms, the luxurious master room with en-suite and a stylish twin and double bedroom with a shared bathroom. The Gardener’s Cottage

With two stylish bedrooms and a shower room, the Gardener’s Cottage is ideal for small families or friends looking for a retreat to the country. The cosy space also provides an idyllic work retreat for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and capture a bit of rural inspiration. The twin bedroom has picturesque views over the courtyard and into the breath-taking Axe Valley, whilst the kitchen, lounge and master bedroom all look out onto the beloved River Cottage walled garden.Click HERE for photos of the Gardener's Cottage.

In both houses, we use white Egyptian linen bedding, organic cotton towels and the bathrooms are stocked with excellent toiletries from Bramley. In each room is a pile of specially selected reading material and handpicked foliage from the farm. 

The Cabin

The Planted Cabin has been created for 1 or 2 people to enjoy a cosy off-grid retreat. The simple but wonderfully comfortable furnishings comprise a double bed, armchair, dining table and chairs as well as a small kitchenette and log burner, all made by sustainable artisan designers. A stone’s throw from the cabin, you’ll find the eco-friendly compostable toilet and adjacent cold water outdoor shower facility.
