Helping out at HALFF

Gelf and his kitchen team have been helping out at HALFF (Health and Local Food for Families) cooking sessions with local kids.

We support a charity very local to us in Axminster called HALFF, who run cookery sessions for children, individuals and families as well as older people in and around East Devon, South Somerset and West Dorset.

Recently, River Cottage Head Chef, Gelf Alderson, along with Bob and Charlie from the kitchen team, have been helping to run these sessions with a local youth group at Millwey in Axminster, cooking a main meal and dessert with them before they sit down and eat together.

As Gelf Alderson says, “We’re always keen at River Cottage to support HALFF and there is no greater pleasure in life in helping kids enhance their future involvement in food’.

The sessions are focused on more than just cooking, they also increase awareness of seasonality, nutrition, local food produce, through to life skills and team work for youth clubs/schools or improving and maintaining health for those with health concerns.
